166th Mission Support Group

April 07, 2011

The group provides personnel management support, human services and educational opportunities to enhance the professional development, personal growth and mission effectiveness of the wing. Operational functions within the squadron include the Military Personnel Flight, Education and Training Flight, and Career Assistance Advisor. The squadron also trains deployable personnel to support contingency operations. The squadron directly supports the wing's most important resource, our people. Subordinate to the group are three flights and three squadrons.

166th Mission Support Flight
The flight's mission is to support commanders and members of the Delaware ANG, dependents and military retirees by providing military personnel policy interpretation, customer service, training, education, personnel utilization and progression, personnel systems management, recruiting, retention, readiness, personnel information management, and personnel support for contingency operations (PERSCO). The flight received an "Excellent" rating in its last Air Force Unit Compliance Inspection, and flight recruiting produced the most recruits in a given year for an ANG Recruiter in 2007. PERSCO troops recently deployed in support of Operations Joint Enterprise and Enduring Freedom.

166th Communications Flight
The flight's mission is the planning, management, operations, and maintenance of information technology networks (local/wide area networks) and non-secure and secure communications using the latest commercial digital technology. The flight supported Operation Noble Eagle in 2001-2002, AEF deployments since 2002 in multiple locations throughout the world supporting both Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom in 2008. Supported state missions included Hurricane Rita support in 2004, Operation Jumpstart in 2006, and Hurricane Gustav in 2008. The unit received "excellent" and "outstanding" ratings on its Air Force Operation Readiness Inspection in 2004 and the Air Force Unit Compliance Inspection in 2006. The unit also achieved full compliance during Air Mobility Command COMSEC inspections in 2006 and 2008.

166th Civil Engineer Squadron
The squadron's mission is to provide Prime BEEF (Base Engineer Emergency Force) personnel capable of deploying anywhere in the world, including bare bases, to support aircraft operations with bed-down, rapid runway repair, operations, maintenance support, and crash/fire suppression activities. The squadron provides the resource protection, environmental quality, infrastructure/facility maintenance and repair, and human services necessary to support the wing's mission. Its objective squadron structure is organized into five major flights: operations, fire protection, engineering, readiness, and explosive ordnance disposal. Squadron personnel recently deployed to Mississippi in support of Hurricane Katrina relief and to Southern Arizona in support of Operation Jumpstart; GWOT support included deployments to Kuwait, Diego Garcia, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan.

166th Logistics Readiness Squadron
The squadron's mission is to provide robust logistics support to the wing, performing air and space expeditionary force readiness and expeditionary combat support planning through war reserve material management, deployment and reception planning, training and execution. The squadron maintains the wing's chemical warfare defense equipment and the arms storage and issue facility, and provides quality fuel and cryogenic support to the global airlift mission, ensuring timely service for all assigned C-130, as well as a variety of transient aircraft and ground support vehicles and equipment. The squadron also provides airlift support for the movement of cargo, mail and passengers to support various U.S. military operations, as well as providing airlift support of worldwide humanitarian efforts, exercises, contingencies and emergencies. The squadron has successfully maintained a fleet of government vehicles at a 95 percent mission capable rate and dispensed over five million gallons of aviation fuel. In the last 10 years, squadron members have deployed to every continent in support of DoD operations. Over 35 percent of squadron members have deployed overseas in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

166th Security Forces Squadron
The squadron is responsible for the public safety of base members and the safety and security of the wing's C-130 fleet and facilities. The squadron manages the wing's information and personnel security, combat arms training, criminal investigative support and traffic safety. Squadron personnel work with wing leadership, the Judge Advocate General, Air Force Office of Special Investigation, Air Mobility Command staff, and federal, state, and local police. Members are trained to respond to state emergencies including natural disasters and domestic terrorist acts and participate in state and federal emergency preparedness exercises and home station training. Squadron members completed a six month deployment to the Middle East in the period shortly after 9/11.

166th Services Flight
The flight's mission is to provide billeting, food service, laundry and mortuary services during a wartime scenario. A secondary mission is to provide Honor Guard support, lodging and food services for unit members during unit training assemblies. Unit members deployed to a bare-base in Southwest Asia in 2003 in support of U.S. Army Soldiers during the launch of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
