193rd RTI

The 193rd Regiment (RTI) provides regionalized combat arms, leadership, military occupational specialty (MOS), additional skill identifier (ASI), noncommissioned officer education system (NCOES), and general studies training for the Army National Guard (ARNG), United States Army Reserve (USAR), and the active component (AC). The 193rd Regiment also monitors and coordinates academic instruction, food, and lodging (where available) for Soldiers participating in courses and training at its training sites.

The 193rd was constituted on 4 May 1921 as the 2nd Battalion, 198th Artillery (Antiaircraft) Coast Artillery Corps from former elements of the 1st Delaware Infantry. These elements were formerly Pioneer Infantry units from Newark, Dover, Milford and New Castle. The new Headquarters was organized at Dover and federally recognized on 16 June 1921. Redesignated in 1924 as the 2nd Battalion, 198th Coast Artillery (Antiaircraft).

Inducted into Federal service at Dover on 16 September 1940. Departed for overseas service 27 January 1942, serving in Bora Bora, New Hebrides, Guadalcanal, Treasury Islands, New Guinea and the Philippines. Inactivated 15 February 1946 on Hokkaido, Japan.

Reorganized and Federally recognized 17 October 1946 with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery at Dover, Battery A in Laurel, Battery B at Georgetown, Battery C at Milford, and Battery in Seaford. Reorganized and Redesignated 24 October 1949 as the 193rd Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion.

Reorganized and Redesignated 20 July 1951 as the 193rd Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, Battery A and a Medical Detachment at Dover, Battery B at Middletown, Battery C at Milford and Battery and Battery D at New Castle.

Consolidated 1 April 1959 with the 198th Artillery, a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System. Reconstituted 1 December 1996 as Headquarters, 193rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute (RTI), replacing the Delaware Military Academy. Awarded Federal recognition effective 13 April 1997.

The 193rd Today

The 193rd RTI's home station is located at the Bethany Beach Training Site (BBTS). The 193rd operates the Delaware Military Academy which runs the famed Officer Candidate School. The BBTS offers several military schools including civil disturbance, domosetic operations, combat lifesaving, and various other programs.
