Army Aviation continues to modernize
By Sgt. Scott Boeckelmann, Det. 1, 832nd Medical Co. (Air Ambulance)

The last of the flyable OH-58C Jet Ranger helicopters are all set and ready to go.

The last of the flyable OH-58C Jet Ranger helicopters leaves its home of many years in Delaware. The aircraft was flown to the New Jersey Army National Guard Aviation Facility in Trenton, New Jersey, on Thursday, April 24. Over the last year, most of the Delaware fleet of 58’s have been flown out of Delaware to take the place of the AH-1G Cobra helicopters from New Jersey. The Cobra attack helicopter has been removed from the Army inventory and is being replaced by the AH-64 Apache. During this transition, the units that have previously flown Cobras will use the OH-58 helicopter until they receive the Apache attack helicopter.

The last remaining OH-58C in Delaware is in a non-flying status and will most likely be shipped to New Jersey by way of a flatbed trailer. This aircraft has not flown in over 2 years due to severe engine problems.
