This year's
Colonel S.B.I. Duncan Leadership award was presented to Army Spc. Daniel
S. Bailey and Air Tech Sgt. Allan P. Post on Sunday, April 13. The award
is presented annually to a Delaware National Guard soldier and airman,
serving as traditional guardsmen, whose quality of service best reflects
the example set by Colonel S.B.I. Duncan during his 35 years of dedicated
service in the Delaware National Guard. Recipients are recognized for
outstanding performance in areas of leadership, devotion to duty, support
of recruiting and retention objectives, and their ability to accomplish
assigned tasks.
Spc. Bailey is a Cable System Installer in Company B, 280th
Signal Battalion. He was Honor Graduate of his Advanced Individual
Training class, completing the course in May 2000. Last year he was a
critical part of his unit’s cable mission at Fort Meade during Operation
Grecian Firebolt. For his actions, he was awarded the Army Achievement
Medal. Bailey maintains a high degree of physical fitness. In Basic
Training, he had the highest Physical Fitness score and continues by
earning a maximum score of 300 on his past two tests with the Delaware
Guard. His superiors agree that he is an extremely competent, professional
soldier who displays great leadership abilities and potential.
Tech Sgt. Post is an aeromedical evacuation technician with the 142nd
Aeromedical Evacuation squadron. Last year he served six months in support
of Operation Enduring Freedom, helping to transport sick and wounded
troops throughout Turkey and Uzbekistan. He has also served in Bosnia,
Germany and Paraguay. He is the NCOIC of the 142nd’s Disaster Preparedness
Section and a registered Emergency Medical Technician who also teaches an
EMT re-certification course. Recently, he spearheaded a program with the
Baltimore Shock Trauma unit to allow medical technicians the opportunity
to observe the care and treatment of trauma
victims.
