U.D. ROTC  grad receives commission

Ken McDonald graduated from the University of Delaware this spring and accepted his commission as a signal officer in the Delaware National Guard. 2nd Lt. McDonald graduated with a bachelor’s degree in both biology and nursing in May and was accepted into the nursing residency program at the University of Pennsylvania. Specifically, he will be working as a cardio-thorasic nurse in the heart and lung transplant unit at the hospital.

McDonald intends to begin graduate school in August and eventually complete a doctorate in nursing with emphasis on health care policy. McDonald joined the Army Reserves in 1996 and transferred to the Delaware National Guard in 1999 as a specialist in the Motor Section at HHC, 261st Signal Brigade.

Once he joined the ROTC Program, he elected to remain in the Simultaneous Membership Program and was assigned as a cadet in the 59th Medical Detachment. Last year he was transferred to Company A, 280th Signal Battalion. He is scheduled to transfer to Company B, 280th Signal Battalion in December where he will be assigned as the Extension Node Platoon Leader.
