Mr. Rawley began his distinguished military by enlisting in
the US Marine Corp in 1954. His Army career began the following year when
he enlisted in the Army and served as a Guided Missile Crewman until 1957.
He was assigned to the USAR Control Group in January 1957 until January
1963. In 1966 he reenlisted in the US Army Reserve and served with the
2nd Special Forces Group as a Light Weapons Leader.
He completed Airborne School in Aug. 1966 and the Infantry
Officer Candidate in January 1968. He served as S-3 and Detachment
Commander of Detachment A Company B 11th Special Forces Group
from January 1966 until April 1973. From April 1973 until November 1975,
he was reassigned as Detachment Commander of Operations Detachment Company
C, 11th Special Forces Group. In Nov. 1975 he was assigned as
the Detachment S-2 and served in that position until March 21, 1979 when
he was appointed to the Delaware National Guard.
He served as Training Officer and Instructor with the
Delaware Military Academy from March 1979 until June 1983. In June 1983 he
was transferred to the 261st Signal Command serving as a
Liaison Officer until February 1985. In February 1985 he returned to the
Delaware Military Academy and served as Instructor and Operations and
Training Officer until December 1986. In December 1986 he transferred to
the STARC Logistics Directorate and served as Transportation and Plans
Officer until his retirement on August 26, 1987.
Mr. Rawley’s military education consists of Airborne and
Guided Missile Crewman training, Officer Candidate School, Basic and
Advance Course, Signal Officer Advanced Course, Pathfinder, Special
Forces, Ranger, Jump Master, Infantry Officer Candidate School, Command
and General Staff College.
His military awards and decorations include the Soldier’s
Medal, Army Commendation Medal, the Army Reserve Component Achievement
Medal, Overseas Service Medal, Master Parachute Badge, senior Parachute
Badge, Canadian Parachute Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Special Forces Tab,
Ranger Tab, the Delaware Medal of Military Merit Award, and the Physical
Training Ribbon. Rawley is a member of the Camden County Veterans Advisory
Committee and is active with many veteran organizations including the
POW?MIA of New Jersey and the VFW. He is presently employed as the
Training Officer in the Camden County Sheriff’s Office.
