Brig. Gen. Ronald Stewart, Assistant Adjutant General, Delaware Army National Guard, presents the Maintenance Excellence Award to Capt. Russell Meredith, 262nd Maintenance Company Commander.

This year's Maintenance Excellence Award was awarded to the 262nd Maintenance Company during ceremonies held at the new Dagsboro Readiness Center in Dagsboro, on December 7.

Capt. Russ Meredith and four soldiers from the motor pool received the trophy on behalf of the 262nd, who earned the award by having the Delaware Army National Guard’s number one maintenance program for training year 2002.

Bestowed upon the 262nd by Brig. Gen. Ronald Stewart, Assistant Adjutant General, Delaware Army National Guard, the new award is being presented for only the second year. Stewart spoke of the significance of the award. "Maintenance is a key component of readiness," he affirmed.

State Command Sgt. Maj. James Vavala addressed the 262nd Maintenance Company and applauded them for their many awards and accomplishments as they consistently meet and exceed standards that are set forth for them.

In addition to receiving the trophy, the 262nd Maintenance Company’s name has been added to a new plaque, which is displayed in the library of State Area Command Headquarters.

The names of the two existing – as well as all future – recipients of the annual award will adorn the plaque as a recognized tribute to their maintenance and readiness that all may observe .
