A day with the Assistant Adjutant General
Story and photos by Pfc. Eugena C. Roaché , Det. 1 444th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment

Brig. Gen. Ronald B. Stewart spent the day on December 7 visiting Army National Guard organizations throughout Delaware. He addressed soldiers with the holiday season in mind.

Stops included the 262nd Maintenance Company Readiness Center in Dagsboro, the Company B, 280th Signal Battalion's Pigman Readiness Center in Seaford, and HHC 280th Signal Battalion in Georgetown.

Stewart’s time with the 262nd Maintenance Company included a ceremony during which he presented the Company with the Army National Guard’s second annual Maintenance Excellence Award.

Afterward, he reminded the soldiers of their comrades who are currently deployed and will be away from their families this holiday season.

As Stewart visited the 280th, he was escorted by Capt. Joseph A. Cooke, Jr., Commander, Company A, 280th Signal Battalion, who introduced him to available soldiers of Company A, including its newest member, Staff Sgt. Poquita Gibbs.

The much-anticipated visitor spoke candidly with members of each of the organizations that he visited and posed for photos that will remain with each of the units.

After visiting other facilities, Stewart arrived at HHC 280th, where he was present for the promotion of Pamela S. Gonce, Commander, 280th Signal Battalion, to Lieutenant Colonel.

The ceremony held at HHC 280th also included a presentation of the Army Distinctive Achievement Medal to Maj. Carl Johnson for his outstanding performance as an S-3 officer.

The last stop for Stewart on this day was at the 198th Signal Battalion in Newport. Accompanying the holiday address by Stewart was a special address by Maj. Gen. Francis D. Vavala, State Adjutant General.

Both provided warm holiday wishes for soldiers and their families and, again, lent special tribute to our deployed soldiers of the 153rd Military Police Company.

The National Guard Family will have these soldiers and their families in our thoughts throughout this season and until they return home.

Until we gather again next year… Happy Holidays .
