Brig. Gen. Jim Dougherty assembled the retired officers of the 261st Signal Brigade on Sunday, Feb. 10, to share his Vision for the unit and solicit their input. As the key leaders who developed the vision in the past and who transformed the 261st Signal Command years ago, these gentlemen represent over 350 years of collective experience and expertise.

"This is the 3rd working document of the Brigade Vision," Brig. Gen. Dougherty explained. "My goal is to communicate the core thinking that provides an integrated approach that is tailored to our needs. The end-state will be a document that provides understanding, ability to change, and creates synergy across our leadership team. This Vision will provide a road map - an information/signal solution under NETCOM/ASC and the State of Delaware."

One of the key tenants of this vision is the need to be flexible and adaptable to meet evolving missions – warfighting, homeland defense, and peacekeeping/peace enforcement. Because of today’s rapidly changing environment, a roadmap is needed that fully integrates the communication between all levels of leadership, and focuses on building solid relationships with active and reserve component units within the signal community, various branches, and the signal school.

Brig. Gen. Dougherty concluded that the gentlemen who attended today were, and continue to be key leaders in the transformation of our unit. Their insights will help us get to the ‘bottom line’ – the signal solution that will make us a leader in the signal community.
