Awards: Fields receives Conspicuous Service Cross
By Maj. Jane Zak, 261st Signal Brigade, Public Affairs Officer

Master Sgt. Henry Fields

Master Sgt. Henry Fields was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross which is awarded in accordance with an Act of the General Assembly for Conspicuous Service above the ordinary requirement of duty well done. Master Sgt. Henry Fields was presented this award for exceptional performance of heroism on July 14, 2001. On this day, he stopped at a traffic accident and took steps to extricate an unconscious person from a vehicle that was quickly becoming engulfed in flames. He assessed the situation using sound judgement and took immediate steps to re-route traffic and recruit needed assistance in order to save the life of the trapped person. Master Sgt. Fields broke the side window to access the person and worked to disengage the person’s legs from the steering column, eventually dragging the person to safety. Master Sgt. Fields clearly demonstrated the heroic character and actions of a career non-commissioned officer.
