The 193rd Regional Training Institute (RTI) Staff went to Fort Indiantown Gap, Penn., in early July to conduct Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS) training for 240 Officer Candidate School (OCS) candidatates. The candidates, from approximately 30 states, participated in the 2 day training. The class is taught during the Phase II portion of their rigorous  school training. If the candidates can meet all the challenges of Phases 2 and 3, they will be commissioned as second lieutenants in August.

SINCGARS is a multiservice communications system. To fight together and win on the modern battlefield, tactical air, land and sea forces need an effective command, control and communications (C3) system. Single-channel (SC), very high frequency (VHF), frequency modulation (FM) combat net radio systems provide the primary means of communication for command and control of a wide variety of combat forces. The SINCGARS is the largest family of radios in this latest generation of combat radios. Compatibility between the Navy's shipboard applications and ground and airborne versions allows us to stay linked together in remote combat situations.

CW4 Roger Perry, Sgt. 1st Class Rodney Godfrey, Sgt. 1st Class Michael Mason, and Sgt. 1st Class Becky Evans were ready to train and to operate the SINCGARS Radios. Administrative personnel from Fort Benning, Georgia, were on the seen to commend the 193rd RTI Staff once again for having the best records kept. The staff personnel of the 193rd are considered the subject matter experts on SINCGARS in the entire Region B training area.
