Delaware House of Reps to Help Celebrate 226th Birthday of the Army
Soldiers will officially don the Black Beret at Legislative HallOn Thursday, June 14th at 2 p.m. in the House Chamber in Dover, our State House of Representatives will help the Delaware National Guard celebrate three significant, patriotic events. First the Air National Guard will present a "History of the Flag" ceremony in honor of Flag Day. Next, Maj. Gen. Frank Vavala, Adjutant General of the Delaware National Guard, will cut the ceremonial birthday cake celebrating the Army’s 226th birthday. And lastly, as part of the Army Chief of Staff’s transformation plan and a world-wide ceremony, soldiers will don the new official headgear of the Army – the black beret.
"Soldiers of the Delaware Army National Guard are a vital part of our nation’s total Army and it is symbolic that today we take part in the wearing of the berets just like our active duty counterparts," said Vavala. This ceremony, or one similar to it, will take place around the country and around the globe today – signifying the transformation of our Army into the future force. A new force – a strategically responsive force for the 21st century. It will be a symbol of unity, a symbol of Army excellence, a symbol of our values, he explained.

All ceremonies are inside Legislative Hall in the House Chambers.
Great opportunities for sound bites and visuals!!
