Spc. Michael Miller and his wife Private 1st Class Megan Miller have brought excellent cooking skills and a sense of teamwork to the food service section at Company A, 280th Signal Battalion.

Capt. Valentine Miller, Company Commander (not related to Michael or Megan), praises them for the job they have done since joining her unit approximately six months ago. Capt. Miller stated that she has a ‘very young’ dining facility section, and the Miller’s have made significant improvements to the section.

Spc. Michael Miller is currently in charge of the section and successfully deployed the MKT (Mobile Kitchen Tent) to the practice FTX (Field Training Exercise) and serviced over sixty persons each meal. Capt. Miller said that the team exceeded the standard in the installation and operation of the mobile kitchen.

Private 1st Class Megan Miller has proven to be a motivated self-starter, according to her co-workers. Capt. Miller praised the job she did in assisting with the unit’s Family Day event; and noted, that she has added an extra touch to the kitchen that has made a big difference in the quality of food that is provided.

The Millers joined the Delaware National Guard approximately six months ago looking for extra money and the retirement opportunities. Both had served on active duty in the Marine Corps as cooks; and, left the military upon completion of their initial assignment to raise a family. Private 1st Class Miller also commented that raising three young boys (ages 5, 6, and 8) doesn’t give her and her husband much ‘together time.' Joining the Guard affords them the time to spend together – without the kids - doing something they both enjoy.

Spc. Miller works full-time as a cook at the Delaware Correctional Institute, and Private 1st Class Miller works as a janitor in exchange for tuition for her three boys at the Greenwood Menonite School.
