The 166th Airlift Wing deployed a majority of the Delaware Air National Guard's aircraft recently to an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. Saturday evening, March 22, and Sunday evening, March 23, we will deploy approximately 100 more airmen in a ceremony at 7:30 p.m.

Then and now
by Susan J. Spears

Two months wed and he's off to war,
Surviving in the jungle, fighting for the corps.
"No!" I creid. "Not again! Nevermore!"
When he returned to America's shore,
Did he return to a grateful nation?
No, there was hostility and condemnation.
Still, after his spirit began to heal,
He was filled again with patriotic zeal.
So he joined the Guard in order to fly
as a loadmaster to protect our sky.
Now once again, he awaits the call
that may require him to giee his all.
This time, though, my heart aches times two.
My son has become a loadmaster too!
Yet I am filled with pride in them and hope
that God and country will help me cope.

NOTE: Susan Spears is married to Senior Master Sgt. Michael Spears of our Delaware Air Guard and recently said goodbye their son, Staff Sgt. Andrew Spears, also a member of the Delaware Air Guard, as he deployed to an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia.
