Girl Scouts donate cookies to deployed troops

Members of Girl Scout Brownie Troops 387 and 235, and Junior Troop 778 of Tinicum Township donated 31 cases totaling 365 boxes of assorted Girl Scout cookies to the Delaware USO on Wednesday afternoon, March 5, at Tinicum Township Firehall for men and women deployed overseas in support of military operations.

Lt. Col. Dan Van Wyk, 166th Airlift Wing Vice Commander, Senior Master Sgt. Dawn Peet, Headquarters Delaware Air National Guard, and Joan Cote, Executive Director of Delaware USO, were on hand to accept the cookies on behalf of Delaware’s military members.

The cookies will be shipped and distributed to military members throughout the world. While speaking with the Girl Scout members, Lt. Col. Van Wyk thanked them for the generous donation and acknowledged how appreciative the deployed military members would be to receive them.

"Having been deployed before, I know how hard it is to be away from one’s family," he further stated. "Nothing more reminds deployed members about their homes and families than hot dogs, apple pie and Girl Scout cookies."
