Guard leadership recognizes community support at local WAWA
By Spc. Renee Thomas, 193rd Regional Training Institute

Maj. Gen. Francis D.Vavala, Adjutant General of the Delaware National Guard, visited the WAWA store in Millsboro (# 837) recently to thank store manager Chrissie Callahan for all her support during the past year. Chrissie had felt so moved by all the traffic of soldiers in her store that she elected to designate coffee "on the house’ for anyone in uniform. Maj. Gen. Vavala presented Chrissie with a Delaware National Guard state coin recognizing and honoring local business members in the state.

Maj. Gen. Francis D. Vavala congratulates Cassie Callahan, store manager of Wawa store # 837, for supporting local soldiers. Also present were: CW4 Roger Perry, instructors 1st Sgt. Butch Lee, Staff Sgt. Matthew Stevens, Sgt. 1st Class Rodney Godfrey, Staff Sgt. Terry Handy, Sgt. 1st Class Mark Schroder, 1st Lt. Scott Soucy, and 1st Lt. Timothy Drake.

Pam Battle, assistant manager, decorated the store and made a sign to thank the troops for all their dedication in what they do. Miss Hazel, a store employee, says she’s always ready and faithfully prepares her coffee each morning.

Many of the local units in Sussex County are being mobilized including the Dagsboro’s 262nd Maintenance Company, and 193rd RTI, Bethany Beach.

Assistant manager Pam Battle designed the sign shown here and  decorated the store in support of troops serving their state and country.
