GuardNine-person RIBS Team survives Silver Flag at Tyndall AFB By Senior Master Sgt. Bob Holt, 166
SVF
A nine-person Readiness in Base Services
(RIBS) team supervised by Tech. Sgt. Phillip Brokenbaugh from our 166th
Services Flight recently completed Services Contingency Training (SCT) at
Tyndall AFB 3-9 March 2002 along with our Civil
Engineers.
The training they received at Silver Flag focused on a grueling five-day schedule which focused on bare base beddown operations and sustainment utilizing unique Harvest Falcon/Eagle equipment. The Silver Flag Exercise is an integrated training event that mirrors what they could expect during actual deployments. However, the primary objective is still to provide some "hands on" training on unique contingency assets, which are not available at home station. The goal at SCT is to provide our RIBS team with the most realistic and beneficial training possible to help us to successfully meet current (and changing) Expeditionary Combat Support requirements. During this period our services team along with other RIBS personnel both active duty and reserves lived in a tent city and operated a field kitchen feeding over 200 personnel daily; established a field lodging program; provided morale and recreation; operated a post exchange and fitness center. During the last day and half, the cadre ran an exercise in which all sections activated their control centers and functional areas and are subjected to chemical threats, when they must show competency with the different Mop Levels. Each Services student must pass a written exam to gain a graduation certificate. The members of the RIBS team: Tech Sgt.
Phillip Brokenbaugh, Tech Sgt. Robert Yuninger, Staff Sgt. Donna
Sturtevant, Senior Airman Tracy Ashman, Senior Airman Hanifa Chambers,
Senior Airman David Cropper, Senior Airman Kevin Leamy, Senior Airman
Shemekia Mceachron, and Senior Airman William Mitchell.
