Soldier, NCO of the Year honored at Enlisted Recognition Banquet

Soldier of The Year, Spc. Mark P. Delvechhio of HHC 280th Signal Battalion, received the State Sergeant Major's Trophy for year 2000. Sgt. Maj. Paul Breeding commended the soldier on his leadership abilities, motivation, determination and his professional example. Delvechhio received his award and recognition at the Enlisted Banquet on November 3 from State Command Sgt. Maj. James Vavala. Command Sgt. Maj. Martin DiSabatino, HQ 72nd
Troop Command, was the master of ceremonies.


NCO of The Year, Staff Sgt. Terry M. Handy, HQs, 193rd Regional Training Institute, Supply Sergeant and Key Instructor, Recruit Holding Company, recieved the A.G.'s Trophy for 2000. Handy received his award and recognition at the Enlisted Banquet on November 3 from State Command Sgt. Maj. James Vavala. Command Sgt. Maj. Martin DiSabatino, HQ 72nd Troop Command, was the master of ceremonies. During his speech, Handy rallied the all NCOs present into a heartfelt rededication to the NCO Creed. He talked about the basic tenets of NCO leadership, inciting the Corps to several enthusiastic "Hoooah!" responses.

The 2nd Annual Delaware Army National Guard Enlisted Recognition Banquet was held at the Marydel Fire Company Hall in Marydel, Delaware. The banquet is held to recognize the accomplishments of key enlisted soldiers, as well as to recognize the efforts of all enlisted soldiers from the ranks of private through command sergeant major.
