Teresa Wintermantel (left), who served in the Delaware Air Guard’s 142nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron for four years in the 1980’s, and the sister of John Ptak, was able to pin the 2nd Lt. Gold Bars her slightly younger brother when he became an officer in December 1985.

On Sept. 15, 2002, Maj. John Ptak, a senior navigator, was promoted to Lt. Col. and his sister was there again to do the honors. "It was pretty neat, as my sister was next to me again for another important promotion, and this time I also had my wife next to me," said Ptak. Keeping it in the family, Lt. Col. Ptak’s wife, Sharon Ptak, is a Captain and flight nurse in the 142nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron.
