GuardEmployer Support Signal soldiers support Employer Day By Maj. Jane Zak, 198th Signal Battalion Soldiers from the 259th Signal Company and Company A, 280th Signal Battalion displayed equipment in support of the Employer Appreciation Day that was held at Bethany Beach Training Site on Saturday, September 14.
Sgt. Robert Sheats and Spc. William Goslee, Transmission Systems Operator/Maintainers, from Company A, 280th Signal Battalion, provided information on the mission and capabilities of a TRC-174 Communications Shelter. Sheats and Goslee explained that their section provides line of sight (LOS) multichannel radio and cable links for an area communication company. Normally LOS communication can used between sites 20 miles apart. In situation where the distance is greater, a TRC-174 radio relay can be placed between the two sites to extend the range from 20 to 40 miles. Staff Sgt. Dennis Creswell, Sgt. Peter Ayers, and Spc. David Passwaters, TROPO Operator/Maintainers from the 259th Signal Company explained the capabilities of the TRC-170 (Tropospheric Scatter Radio) to employers. The TRC-170 is used for long haul communications (up to 100 miles). Two sites communicate by bouncing microwave radio communications off of a layer of troposphere. |
