New PT Uniforms Put to the Test

Soldiers of HHD, 198th Signal Battalion, put the new Improved Physical Fitness Uniforms to the test as they conducted their first ‘Regimental Run’ at Delcastle Recreational Center.

Lead by Detachment Commander Capt. Walt Bruhl, the formation ran the two-mile course as a practice for the upcoming Army Physical Fitness Test. Random soldiers volunteered to run in the old PT uniform or BDU’s in order to validate the performance of the new IPFU.

At the end of the workout, soldiers agreed that the new PT uniform outperformed the alternate uniforms - and provided for a welcome change in the unit's PT program.

'Regimental Idol' announced for October

Spc. Sterling Freeman: The 198th Signal Battalion's "Regimental Idol" for October.

The 198th hosted its second Regimental Idol competition in October. This month the competition focused on the wear of the BDU uniform (to include soft cap since the unit was scheduled for weapons qualification at Ft. Dix).

After a tough review by the judges (last month’s Idol Staff Sgt. Elmer Orengo, Master Sgt. James Benson, and Command Sgt. Maj. David Carden), Spc. Sterling Freeman was named October’s Regimental Idol. Freeman, a cook at HHD, 198th Signal Battalion, was awarded an Army National Guard baseball cap and the rights to park in the 198th Executive Officer's spot in front of the Armory during the November Drill. November’s contest will focus on proper radio procedures. The ‘Regimental Talk-Off’ will be conducted using SINCGARS (Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio Systems) during the battalion field training exercise.
