Practice makes perfect with weapons qualification
By Maj. Jane Zak, 198th Signal Battalion

Soldiers of the 198th conducted pre-marksmanship instruction (PMI) at the Bethany Beach Training Site EST (Engagement Skills Trainer) – a critical step in preparing for record weapons qualification at Fort Dix next month. Soldiers trained on proper breathing techniques and positioning of the weapon.

Maj. Bill Rhoads, who assisted with the training, said "Positioning of the weapon is critical to success on the range.

"Many times soldiers spend unnecessary time adjusting the weapon during record fire. This can be eliminated during PMI by working on a good, consistent position: nose on the charging handle, stock locked firmly against the shoulder. The work done at the EST can be the determining factor in whether a soldier qualifies."
