training at the same time was on full display Saturday, September 7th, as
the 160th Engineer Company, 3rd Platoon continued their operation at the
Governor Bacon Training Area in Delaware City.
The 160th is in the 2nd month of their 6-month operation to
create a containment area for dredge spoil to benefit the boaters at the
Delaware City Marina.

community with this project, " said 1st Lt. Kevin Conley, "Having this
equipment on hand saves the state a good amount of money and gives our
unit the sort of extended training that we can really use."
According to 1st Lt. Conley, the creation of the containment
area for dredge spoil will help to deepen the marina, allowing watercraft
to more safely turn around in the marina. Currently, boats are forced to
turn around in the Delaware River.

another run at the Delaware City Marina operation. Photo by Sgt. Joe
Nye. | The operation has allowed each of the platoon’s 23 soldiers
to become more familiar with all the unit’s equipment, including the "Pan"
scraper. The Pan, being used by the unit for the first time, is carrying
the brunt of the mission to dispose of over 50,000 cubic yards of dirt and
brush. The waste will then be properly disposed of near the canal.
Due to the large project, unit members have been able to
cross train on much of the platoon’s equipment, to include the bulldozer,
front loader and 5 and 20 ton trucks.

"This is a really good training operation", said Spc. Alonzo
D. Broadwater, "The instruction has been good, I’ve trained on a number of
vehicles and it’s been done with all the right safety measures."
