Two promotions from the same family occurred on Sept. 15 for
the 166th Airlift Wing, Delaware Air National Guard, in a family
steeped in military service for 3 generations.
Maj. Norman H. Brooks, Jr., a Senior Staff Judge Advocate in
the base legal office, or JAG (Judge Advocate General) office, was
promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel. On the same day, his son, Senior
Airman Jason T. Brooks, was promoted to Staff Sgt. Jason Brooks is
Information Management Specialist in the 166th Airlift Wing Public Affairs
office.
Senior Airman Jeffrey R. Brooks, 2nd son of Norman Brooks
and brother of Jason Brooks, is a member of the 166th Security Forces
squadron, and is currently deployed overseas in Southwest Asia.
Also, a cousin, Joel Steinbrunner, is a Staff Sgt. and
Information Technology Specialist in the 166th Communications Flight.
Attending the ceremony were three other family members with
a strong affinity for service and support of the U.S. military.Shirley
Brooks, wife of Lt. Col. Norman Brooks, is an active member of the
Delaware National Guard Family Support Committee.Norman Brooks, Sr.,
father of Lt. Col. Brooks, Jr., served in the U.S. Navy in World War II as
a 2nd class Petty Officer on the U.S.S. Biscayne, an amphibious force
command ship. He was involved in the 1942 invasions of Palermo and Sicily,
and other campaigns.James Brooks, brother of Lt. Col. Norman Brooks, is a
graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and recently retired as a Commander,
U.S. Navy. He currently works as a civilian employee on the Joint Strike
Fighter program at the
Pentagon.
