I.T. oriented Guard members may qualify to take a Microsoft Certified Professional exam-generally a $125 expense-at no cost, under a recently announced two-year program administered by Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES).

National Guard members working in information technology-related jobs and who have gained IT-related experience through training or education are eligible to apply for a voucher . Simply print the voucher form and have it signed by the State TCO and Education Officer, 1LT Deborah Welch at 326-7044.

This program "is an innovative way to assist in meeting certification needs for some I.T. professionals," said 1LT Welch.

The program is scheduled to run for two years, but there are a limited number of vouchers. Officials anticipate that they will all be used well before the two-year period comes to pass so people are encouraged to apply promptly.

The voucher is good for a broad range of exams such as Administering Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and Installing, Configuring and Administering Microsoft XP Professional.

Tests are given at Pearson VUE centers . Pearson has more than more than 250 centers in 50 countries, along with testing centers at military installations .

The information site includes a long FAQ list that answers questions about the program. If you have questions about the test voucher program, please email 2LT Welch at Deborah.welch@de.ngb.army.mil.

The Veterans Administration also offers information about a variety of certification programs in conjunction with service member G.I. Bill Benefits.
