262nd Change of Command

Sunday, February 24, the 262nd General Support Maintenance Company held a change of command ceremony.

Capt. Mike Murphy is the current commander, and will leave for Iraq on a Military Imbedded Training Team (MITT).“It is a ten-man team that will assist in training Iraqi soldiers,” said Murphy.

1st Lt. Gary Nelson is the incoming commander. Nelson has been a member of the 262 for four years, holding dual roles as Headquarters Platoon Sergeant and Executive Officer (XO). Nelson enlisted twenty years ago and deployed in the Gulf War with the First Infantry Division. He became commissioned after attending Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 2005.

“I’m looking forward to leading the unit I’ve been with for the past four years--it’s a great honor,” he said.

Nelson receives the guideon from 721st battalion commander Lt. Col. Jose Quintana as a symbol of taking command of the 262nd.

Nelson addresses the Soldiers of the 262 Maintenance Company.  He is looking forward to "extending his family" and the upcoming challenges of the Company.
