DNG holds its 34th safety conference

The Delaware Army National Guard Joint Force Headquarters Aviation and Safety Division hosted its 34th annual State Safety and Occupational Health Conference at the Delaware Air National Guard Headquarters February 23.

Brig. Gen. Terry L. Wiley hosted the event as the Chairman of the DE ARNG Safety Council. He presented awards to both units and shops that demonstrated an effective safety program and did not experience a lost work day accident.

Guest speakers also spoke on topics including: A Wake Up Call for Safe Living, POV Safety, the DEARNG Motorcycle Safety Program and Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility.

He also presented Maj. Gen. Frank Vavala with the Army National Guard’s Stellar Award. The Stellar Award was presented to Delaware at the National Safety Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, for 18 years without a class A or B ground or aviation accident.

“It’s great that we take a day to pause and address safety and health for our units and Soldiers,” said Vavala.

Lt. Col. Jose Quintana (USP&FO) , Col. Robert Davis (AASF), and Sgt. 1st Class Robert Simms (FMS #5)  accepted Facility of Excellence Safety Awards.

Bruce Taylor spoke on the motorcycle safety program.

Lt. Alexander spoke on POV safety.

Mercedes Ramos Johnson accepts a hug from Brig. Gen. Wiley after her presentation “A Wake Up Call for Safe Living.”

Units from across the state received a Certificate of Merit for safety records.
