Brigadier General James P. Begley

Brigadier General James P. Begley serves as Director, Joint Staff, Delaware National Guard. As Director, he serves as the principal advisor to The Adjutant General for all Homeland Security and Defense Support to Civil Authorities matters pertaining to the National Guard. He is responsible for planning, directing and administering programs related to state emergency operations within Delaware, and maintains liaison with major commands and the National Guard Bureau.

General Begley received his commission from the Virginia Military Institute on 18 May 1985. While on active duty, he was stationed in Germany and deployed in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm as Battalion Signal Officer, 4th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery (Patriot). In September 2005, he led a Delaware Army National Guard team to Louisiana in support of recovery and restoration operations in the Pelican Joint Operations Center J6 after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. General Begley deployed to Iraq in 2006 as Commander, 198th Signal Battalion. Prior to his current assignment, General Begley was Commander, 261st Tactical Theatre Signal Brigade, Delaware Army National Guard.
