287th Army Band

The 287th Army Band provides music throughout the full spectrum of military operations and instill in our soldiers the will to fight and win, foster the support of our citizens, and promote our national interests at home and abroad. Dating back over 230 years to the Revolutionary War, band members have always been an important part of the U.S. Army.

Musical elements of the 287th Army Band include: Ceremonial Band, Show Band, Rock Band, Woodwind Quintet, Brass Quintet, Jazz Combo, Sax Quintet, and Concert Band. All potential Army musicians must pass the Tri-Service Audition before acceptance. For more information on our recruiting initiatives, please contact our Readiness NCO.

  • Organized and Federally recognized 16 June 1921 in the Delaware National Guard as Band Section, Service Battery, 198th Artillery Regiment, Coast Artillery, at Wilmington
  • Redesignated 16 August 1924 as Band Section, Service Battery, 198th Coast Artillery Regiment
  • Redesignated 15 December 1939 as Band, 198th Coast Artillery
  • Inducted into Federal Service 16 September 1940 at Wilmington
  • Reorganized and re-designated 1 March 1944 as 287th Army Band
  • Reorganized and re-designated 1 June 1944 as 287th Army Ground Forces Band
  • Inactivated 28 February 1946 in Japan
  • Redesignated 17 May 1947 as 287th Army Band
  • Reorganized and Federally recognized 23 July 1947 at Wilmington
