For mostDelawareans, June marks the start of summer and vacation planning, but for units of the Delaware Army National Guard,including the 287th Army Band, it means 15 days of intense Annual Training.
In June, members of the 142nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron ventured to Fort Drum, NY to participate in "Joint Patriot 2001." The exercise is sponsored by the National Guard Bureau and employs U.S. military and multinational forces in a joint training environment.
Governor Ruth Ann Minner recently proclaimed the year 2001 as the Year of the Employer in support of our ESGR program.
Command Sgt. Maj. (Ret) William A. Sharp, served the Army between March 1949 and April 1990. The 2nd State Command Sgt. Maj. of the Delaware Army National Guard, he also served the Army Guard simultaneously with five of his brothers, all of whom were present, along with a sister, sons, grandsons and great grandsons.
In May, the Delaware National Guard Marathon Team traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska to compete in the 18th Annual National Guard Bureau Marathon Trials and Recruiting Workshop. The trails were held during the 24th Annual Lincoln Marathon and more then 220 Guard members competed, representing nearly every state and U.S. territory. All five runners from the Delaware team completed the grueling 26.2-mile race and placed 22nd in the team competition.
